the Worst Knight of the Round Table

The Worst Knight of the Round Table is a 2D top-down RPG. You play as the infamous Useless Knight of the Round Table, so often left out of the Camelot stories. You wake one morning to find that Arthur and his knights have left on a quest to find the Holy Grail—without you. As you hurry to catch up with them, you’ll come adventure through strange lands, meet new friends and enemies alike, and take on various side quests. In the end, you may save the world from the mysterious and evil plot with many twists and turns, unfolding throughout the game!

This game was created in a month as my final project in a Video Game Scripting class. The assignment was to create a game you would want to play, and my absolute favorite games in the whole world are dialogue-heavy, story driven RPGs, and while I knew it would be a large undertaking for such a short-term project with my limited knowledge, it was a lot of fun! I had the most fun doing the little things - like the little item bounce and the funny little character quirks. 

In developing this game, the longest and toughest part of the procress was building enough fail-safes for all sorts of players. I learned a lot about the Unity Event system, and based much of my code (my task and dialogue system!) around it. I also knew that, despite the short amount of time, I wanted a complete and interesting story. I knew my dialogue and task systems would have to not only be strong enough to be the backbone of the game, but also robust enough to handle anything the story happened to throw at it, which was a lot. The combat system was also a unique challenge that developed as it went — “bugs” like the player lunging toward the enemies (which was originally getting around the fariy rigidbody) became fun features. I also wanted to make sure that the game was endearing in its style, as anyone who is willing to read my lines upon lines of dialogue deserves to see something pretty on the screen.
